Healthy snacks, tiny shoes and a TumbleBus?

Yesterday Grimm’s had the pleasure of attending the 2017 Healthy Family Expo at the Convention Centre in Vancouver BC for the first time.

We were there bright and early in the morning to set up in the Whole Foods section of the show.  The doors opened at 9 AM and away we went! We brought along our whole line of Naturally Fermented Pickles, Sauerkraut, and Kimchi for everyone to sample.

Our goal was to be fun and interactive while educating everyone about the benefits of fermented foods. We brought along a big jug of our Naturally Fermented Pickle juice with the question “Are you up for a Grimm’s Shot?”
It turns out (after a lot of “What is that?”) people were on board!

So, what exactly is a Grimm’s Shot and what are the benefits?

Many are familiar with drinking pickle juice; it has several benefits as listed in the article from Delish
Naturally fermented foods one-up these benefits as they are raw and unpasteurized therefore packed with healthy bacteria and probiotics. The brine from these foods holds millions of these helpful bacteria that promote good gut health!
We encourage people to keep this brine and incorporate it into salad dressings and dips, or to drink it straight like in a Grimm’s Shot! In fact, we had many adventurous little ones that were eager to partake in this.

Now, we may not have rivaled the fun being had on the trampolines, or at the Bobs & Lolo concert, but we did have a great time talking to many different families about fermented foods! All in all, it was a great way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon in Vancouver!

Were you at the Healthy Family Expo this year?
Did you stop by the booth for a Grimm’s Shot? Share your photos with us and let us know if you’ve started including fermented foods into your family’s diet.

Spring has sprung!
We are officially into the spring season which means we can start thinking about retiring those heavy winter coats, getting out into the yard, and best of all, firing up the grill!

There’s something about spring that makes us feel optimistic, the days may still be a little chilly, but they’re longer and brighter. Weekends can be spent enjoying the outdoors! Not begrudgingly shoveling a driveway that’s covered in snow.  This winter was a particularly nasty one across the country; even here on the west coast, we battled what seemed like never-ending snowfall. Now, we are taking full advantage of the spring season planning weekend hikes, fishing trips, and neighbourhood BBQ’s. We love stocking a backpack up with water, sandwiches & Mini Peps and heading out to explore in our own backyard.  We encourage you to do the same!

Another thing we love about spring is that it kicks off the BBQ season. Every year we look forward to getting back out into our communities for weekend BBQs. We’re busy pretty much every weekend from late March into Mid-September serving up Smokies and European Wieners and helping raise funds for various causes that are close to our hearts and the hearts of our communities.  Nothing is better than bringing people together for an afternoon with a delicious BBQ outdoors to help people reach their goals.

If you are planning a fundraiser BBQ and would like Grimm’s support you can contact us here.

What is your favourite thing about spring?
Do you prefer to get out and explore, have picnics in the park, or just hang out on the deck grilling up good food with good company?

It’s Monday evening, today you’ve managed to get the kids ready for school and out the door, make it to the office for back to back meetings, pick the kids up from school, drive one child to soccer practice, drive the other to dance class, pick them both up, prepare dinner, help with homework, and do bedtime routines. You are amazing.

Now it is the end of the night and you just want to sit down and take a moment for yourself.

The only problem is tomorrow’s another day and the kids need nutritious school lunches packed and ready to go in the morning.

Whether you’re prepping tomorrow at the end of a chaotic day or scrambling in the morning to get out the door, it can be very stressful trying to create something healthy and also tasty to ensure it won’t be carted home at the end of the day. Don’t worry; Grimm’s has got you covered.  We’ve put together a few winning combinations packed with protein, fruits & vegetables to take the pressure off planning and keep busy kids of all ages going all day.

Lunchtime today has us thinking about one of our favourite foods…

We thought we’d share our thoughts with you on the one food that lends itself to an endless list of ingredients, can be found at breakfast lunch or dinner, in a preschooler’s lunch bag or an executive’s briefcase and is enjoyed around the world.

Sandwiches are a timeless classic that evolve with us throughout our lives. Do you remember sitting in preschool with your peanut butter and jelly sandwich packed with love by mom? Or enjoying a Sloppy Joe in the cafeteria with newfound friends at summer camp? Flash forward; you’re probably sending your own kids off in the morning with a ham sandwich and a hug, or ordering a gourmet creation off the menu at a lunch meeting.

There are infinite ways to customize this staple, and as this article from the Thrillest shows it doesn’t matter where you live there’s nothing more comforting and no better way to enjoy multiple food groups in one bite than a sandwich!

Sandwiches pack big flavour into simple to create recipes that you can eat with your hands! (No fork? No problem!) We thoroughly enjoy experimenting in the Grimm’s kitchen with countless combinations. Whether it is a savoury and sour Rueben with Pastrami, Swiss and Sauerkraut on Rye or sweet and gooey Smoked Turkey, Brie and Avocado with Cranberry Mayo on gluten-free bread, we are always keeping our eyes open for recipes that make our mouths water.

What is your favourite type of sandwich and why? Does it spark feelings of nostalgia? Is it that delicious creation made from holiday leftovers? Or perhaps is it a lunchtime favourite picked up from the deli down the road. All this talk of sandwiches has left us feeling inspired.

We’ve decided to challenge ourselves in the kitchen to come up with monthly sandwich recipes to share with you, we would love to hear your suggestions on what to make next!
